The Journal of Biblical Ethics in Medicine was founded by three physicians who desired to help all students, physicians, pastors, health professionals, and concerned Christians advance and enrich their understanding of medical, ethical debates.
They confidently believed the proclamation of the Bible that "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work (II Timothy 3:16-17).
The Westminster Confession of Faith amplifies this total sufficiency of Scripture when it states that "The whole counsel of God, concerning all things necessary for His own glory, man's salvation, faith, and life, is either expressly set down in Scripture, or by good and necessary consequence may be deduced from Scripture..." (Chapter 1.6.; 2 Peter 1:3)
Therefore, they sought to understand modern medicine in light of the guidance of Scripture and made God's Word their starting point when confronted with medical, ethical challenges.
